TUESDAY, 9.10am: Mowbray Rangers Cubs Under 9s made it third time lucky when they lifted the winners trophy at Long Field School.
Rangers had lost in the final of their previous two summer tournaments by the odd goal and faced 16 strong teams from across the East Midlands.

In 70 degrees heat, they began with a 3-0 win through Anderson, Jones and Thorn, while Cragg and Jones dispatched Sawtree 2-0.

Defenders Mogg, Barnard and Howard with keeper McNeight were outstanding to keep their opponents out.

Cubs went into their third game needing a point, but fell behind early on and with time running out Jones' good cross forced an own goal to put Rangers through.

Mowbray faced Thurmaston in the semis when Kenny Jones scored one of the goals of the tournament with a 20-yard screamer into the top corner. Cubs then hit the post and McNeight made two good saves to put Rangers into the final.

Rangers faced a strong Sileby Juniors side in the final which was a nervy end-to-end affair. As half-time approached Jones' shot just squirmed over the line to put Rangers ahead.

Sileby threw everything at Rangers, but an outstanding all-team defensive display and two more superb McNeight saves saw Cubs hold on to the delight of their proud parents.

Cubs: McNeight, Mogg, Barnard, Cragg (c), Howard, Anderson, Thorn, Jones.
