FRIDAY, 4pm: Cricket clubs around the borough will be taking part in a national spring clean early next month to prepare for the new season.
Thorpe Arnold CC and Old Dalby CC are both taking part in the NatWest CricketForce weekend which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, April 5 and 6.
Both clubs would like volunteers to join their band of helpers to tidy and maintain their grounds for the forthcoming season which begins next month.
Thorpe have a comprehensive set of tasks lined up for completion over the two days, ranging from grass cutting, weedkilling and general maintenance to building three new bridges around the ground.
They also plan to spruce up their pavilion with painting, refurbishment of the kitchen and improvements to the toilets. Work begins at 9.30am each day.
Old Dalby CC hope to unveil a new bowling machine on Saturday when they will connect it to the electrity supply.
The total project to buy the machine and get it up and running will cost about £2,700, partly thanks to a £500 grant from the Melton Times/Ragdale Hall Make It Happen initiative.
This is the fifth year running Old Dalby have taken part in the scheme and last year recruited more than 40 volunteers. The club hopes to do as well if not better this year.

*The Melton Times would like to apologise for an error in yesterday's paper which stated Thorpe Arnold CC were to hold their CricketForce event this weekend. It will actually take place on April 5 and 6.
