Cook eases to winter pool singles title

SATURDAY, 9am: Steve Cook is the new Melton Winter Pool League singles champion after beating Andy Moore in the final.
In a battle of wits, Steve edged 3-0 ahead. Andy got one back, but Steve stuck to his game and emerged a 6-1 victor.

Desley Meason became the ladies' singles champion for the second year running, beating Marilyn Humphries in the final.

Desle
y took the first two frames before Marilyn hit back. Desley used all her experience to win 5-1.

Thundercats completed the league and cup double after beating the Fulderiks in the final.

Ben Manship and Darren Smith put the Noel's outfit 2-0 up before Rob Jack's eight-baller got the Cat into the match. Mark Knight and Ash Challis levelled things, but Smith and Ricky De'ath restored the Fulderiks lead. Daz Graves and Melvin Picker levelled before Knight and Challis led the Cat home 5-3.

Sly Shots lifted the Division One Cup with the Fulderiks once again the bridesmaids. Ben Manship again put the Fulderiks ahead, but Ryan Taylor and James Barradell levelled and were joined by Paul Stevenson to put the Shots 2-1 up.

Barradell completed his treble by winning his singles for a 3-1 lead before Manship and Boog Thorley made it 3-2. Jon Taylor edged the Shots further ahead and teamed up with Gaz Potter and Simon Rowland to win 5-2.

The Conmen sealed a Division Two league and cup double, beating the Granby in the final. Scott Hanson put them ahead, but Tom Myers and Phil Doubleday levelled.

Matt Briggs, Myers and Doubleday put them 2-1 up and Doubleday's single made it 3-1. But Hanson and Andy Smith pulled one back for the Conny and Lee Smith levelled at 3-3. Hanson, Andy Smith and Steve Lang edged the Conmen ahead before Lee Smith and Lewis Field completed a comeback win.

In the Division Three Cup, Half Cut fell 5-2 to Burton St Preachers despite Half Cut going 2-0 up through Alistair Tyers and then Tyers and Martin Davis.

Mike Allen, Dave Matthews and Graham Marshall gave Noel's the lead before Allen levelled. Matthews and Phil Berry edged them ahead 3-2 before Matthews capped his man-of-the-match display by making it 4-2, leaving Berry, Cler Howell and Monti Powell to complete a 5-2 win.

Another double in Division Four as champions WMC pushed the Incognitos into second spot again.

Russell Young opened the scoring and made it 2-0 with David Gent. Frank Niewiadomski, Rich Bowes and Andy Hill got one on the board for the Rutland gang, but Tim Curtis and then David Pritchett and James Chambers made it 4-1.

Paul Bryan and then Bryan, Sean Barratt and Andy Palmer made it 4-3, but Curtis and Steve Brown guided the Club over the line 5-3.

*Trophy presentations take place at the WMC on Friday, May 23 from 9pm.
