WEDNESDAY, 4pm: Melton schoolboy Callum Munnelly (14) bounced back to win gold at the county athletics championships on Sunday.
Callum, who attends King Edward VII School, and runs for Charnwood Athletics Club, based at Loughborough University, took two medals home from the Three Counties Athletics Championships at the weekend.

On Saturday, Callum came third in the 100m final to claim a bronze medal, but ran out of his skin on Sunday to win the 200m gold medal, decimating his personal best for the print distance by a full second.

Callum will now go forward to represent Leicestershire in the Midland Championships in Birmingham on the next May Bank Holiday weekend.

*Sprinter Phil Berners was in prime form last weekend at Saffron Lane for the County Championships.

The 16-year-old from Melton retained both his 200m and 400m titles for another double gold medal haul.

He had to be at his best in the 200m final where he equalled his county record of 22.8secs to take the title. In the 400m final he crossed the line in 51.2secs.

Phil added another medal to his weekend tally when he claimed 100m silver, clocking 11.5secs, the same time as his Charnwood AC team-mate and champion Marcel Hodge.

Phil also ran earlier in the month for the Under 20s Charnwood team at Derby's Moorways Stadium in the 200m and set a new personal best of 22.5secs to earn qualification for the English Schools Athletics Championships at Gateshead later in the year.
