WEDNESDAY, 1pm: Rower Callum Jones was rewarded for his outstanding form with a bursary to attend the national J16 training camp next Easter.
The 13-year-old received the offer after winning gold in the J14 single sculls over 1,000m at the Peterborough Junior Regatta.
He won his heat, semi-final and then the final in fine style in 3min 46secs some 40 metres ahead of his nearest rival.
It maintained his impressive unbeaten run in any J14 single, double or quad sculling this year.
Callum, from Bottesford, added another success last week in an eight-strong crew with two of his Nottingham clubmates and five from Marlow Rowing Club.
After only one training session together they raced the following day, winning their heat and final against established crews over the 2km course at the Marlow International Regatta at Dorney Lake, Eton, the venue for the 2012 Olympic rowing events.
He is in prime form ahead of the National Championships at Holme Pierrepont on July 17 and 18 where he hopes to compete in both single and quad sculls.
