SATURDAY, noon: Comeback kid Nick Carroll will box for the England rugby team next month after being invited to appear at a special testimonial boxing evening.
Carroll, from Melton, was chosen for the testimonial for World Cup winner Josh Lewsey on June 6 at London's Royal Lancaster Hotel. The black tie bash is expected to attract many of the England rugby team among other sporting celebrities.

The 35-year-old company director made his White Collar Boxing debut just last year following his recovery from major surgery for a debilitating spinal condition five years ago.

His contest will be one of seven bouts in the evening with the audience asked to choose their favourite boxer at the end of the night to support charities such as the Prince's Trust and the Army Benevolent Fund.

Carroll, who won his debut fight comfortably last December, has begun a month's strict training regime five times a week incorporating a lot of sparring and technique training.

He said: "Once again I will be training mainly in Nottingham although Trevor Booth will be training me once a week too at Melton ABC."
