WEDNESDAY, 9am: Belvoir Vale Ladies' Tug of War Team represented England at the UK Championships and made it onto the podium.
The team competed against Scotland A and B, Wales A and B and England A in the 520km section at Daventry.

After some difficult pulling throughout the day, Belvoir Vale secured the bronze medal by 2 ends to 0 after a controlled display against Wales A.

Team member Louise James said: "We were extremely pleased with the result as it was well deserved. We are now looking to next season, which will start early 2009.

"The World Championships, being held in South Africa in 2010, are securely in our sights, and to represent England at this championship would be a great achievement."

The team is always looking for new recruits and would welcome anyone who would like to give the sport a try.

For more information about joining, contact coach Joedy Ibbotson on 07715 164334.

As tug of war is not yet a recognised sport the team finds it tough to obtain grants for kit and travel. To sponsor the girls, contact Louise on 07734 028979.
