SUNDAY, 4pm: Asfordby Amateurs Inclusive were given a welcome helping hand from a town organisation as they hosted a successful tournament last weekend.
The football club gives players with a broad church of disabilities and learning difficulties the chance to play the beautiful game and were decked out in new hooded training tops for the occasion courtesy of Melton Round Table.
The tournament was well attended by 76 players as Amateurs were joined by teams from Harborough Town, Barwell, Hinckley and Leicester.
The day was all about taking part rather than results and was summed up when Barwell won the Fair Play Trophy, awarded by Asfordby Amateurs Ladies and Girls FC players Heidi Millen, Abbie Geeson and Connie Ingle. Andy Bubb, Lorna Millen and Steve Moore helped referee the matches.
Inclusive club coach Stuart Alexander is delighted with how far the club have come: "We are now able to play matches in junior and adult teams. Those clubs that are short of players join other teams as the day is about playing and not the final score.
"All the players and the 100-plus parents who attended had a good time and the football skill level is improving each year.
"A big thank you to the three referees and the three girls who watched all the games and decided which team won the fair play trophy. Also thanks to all the parents who put on a buffet."
