HIGHFIELD RANGERS 2 ASFORDBY AMATEURS 0

Amateurs could have progressed had they taken all the chances they created, distributing the ball around the pitch with confidence.

But against the run of play Highfield went ahead when a free kick was turned into the net.

Keeper Nick Irish's big kick was headed on by Rob Bowler to Stan Wallis whose shot was deflected wide and from the corner Bolando Jibbison shot over from close range.

Wallis went close again, while Tim Brown blocked a goalbound shot. Sam Wright's shot was saved acrobatically Wallis' shot flashed just wide as Asfordby pressed.

After the break Nick Bowler's long-range shot hit the bar, but Highfield headed their second from a corner into the top corner.

Asfordby had more chances but were left to ponder what might have been.

Asfordby: N. Irish (c), A. Shaw, D. Brown (N. Fairbridge 62), T. Brown, N. Bowler, S. Wright, S. Wallace, N. Robinson, T. Kirkpatrick, L. Copland, R. Bowler, B. Jibbison.
