SLIDESHOW!! WEDNESDAY 9AM: Cold wind and steady rain greeted competitors at the Leicestershire Secondary Schools Cross Country League meeting at Melton Country Park on Saturday.
Amongst those who toed the line in dreadful conditions were Stilton Striders Jasmin Southam, Amelia Coltman and Emma Brown.
Jasmin and Amelia both took part in the Year 7 girls' race over one small lap of the testing, hilly course and performed admirably. Jasmin raced to her highest-ever league finish of third, while Amelia again broke into the top 10 with a strong run for ninth place.
In the intermediate girls' race for Year 10 and 11 pupils, Emma made light work of the conditions to produce her best-ever league performance in powering to a superb second place over a two-lap course.
John Ferneley School also fielded many competitors with Jordan Forrester had a storming first run for the school, finishing 7th in the Year 7 boys' race. Tom Wing and Joe Sharp battled with each other to finish 27th and 28th respectively, while Lewis Iron was 34th and Harry Brown 51st.
In the Year 7 girls' Sam van Doorn leading the team home in 30th from Vicky Arno (42nd) and Lily Brewster (46th).
There was another top 10 finish in the junior girls' with Charlotte Marsh ninth. Lottie Jones had another good run to finish 17th, closely followed by Lizzie Golland (24th) with a season-best run, Alex Van Doorn (31st), Emily Cragg (43rd), Rebecca Watts (52nd) and Emily Taylor (53rd).
Jack Dolby was first junior boy home in 26th with Luke Clark 37th, Trevor Adams 58th, Jack Underwood 63rd, Matt Leak 65th and Connor Turbayne 67th. The team was completed by George Herrick (75th), Jordan Elliott (77th), Tom Czuchaj (78th), Dan North (81st), Ollie Konarski (83rd) and in his first-ever race Richard Seagrave (84th).
