Melton Seconds get better of Syston rivals
SLIDESHOW: MELTON RFC SECOND XV 27 SYSTON SECOND XV 19
Melton emerged worthy winners against a strong and well-organised Syston outfit.
Melton pressured straight from kick-off forcing an early penalty which Aley converted. Melton's front row of Webb, Prior and Spence dominated the scrums, giving Greaves a platform to bulldoze over from five metres. A further five-metre scrum helped Greaves go over for his second.
Melton were now in full control and good defence from their back line gave the forwards an attacking lineout five metres out. A catch and drive from Melton's pack gave Brooks his first try of the season.
Melton began the second half leading comfortably, but a concentration lapse allowed Syston a converted breakaway try. Syston came straight back with a rolling maul and went over for their second converted try.
After a good restart, Melton's back row of Moore, Greaves and Lennox pressured Syston's fly half into a mistake, giving Melton good possession in Syston's 22. Another catch and drive allowed Chandler to dance over, Aley converting.
Syston had the last score through a well worked backs try, but Melton finished the stronger.
