SLIDESHOW, TUESDAY 3PM: Energetic runners of all ages took part in the Brooksby Fun Run on Saturday - the second in a three cross country fun run series.
There were more than 150 entrants for the event which included three races - a one lap three-quarters-of-a-mile course for the under fives to year six, a two lap course for year seven children to age 17 and a two lap course for adults and veterans.
The fun run event, organised by the Wreake Runners, also featured school and family teams from the local area. Trophies, medals and goody bags were presented after the races with special prizes for the oldest and youngest finishers.
Event organiser John Skevington, who looks after coaching and management at the Wreake Runners, said the fun run series began with the second Thrussington Fun Run held on March 1 which raised £1,351 for the village primary school. The last in the series will be the Queniborough Stomp Fun Run on April 5. All proceeds will go to the Friends of Queniborough School.
Mr Skevington said: "The Wreake Runners are quite heavily involved in the Thrussington Fun Run. It's a good outreach for us to get out into the community. This year we had the idea of having two other fun runs to make into a series."
He added: "The rain held off for the Brooksby Fun Run and the conditions were almost perfect. There were some severe hills and climbs for runners to tackle but there were some good performances."
Funding was obtained from England Athletics - the body responsible for the governance of athletics in England - which has sponsored all the medals throughout the series.
