Building work on a new ‘landmark’ housing foyer for young people on the edge of Melton town centre is due to start next month.

The foyer, which will provide housing, support and training for people aged 16-25, is to be built on the former public car park on Thorpe End - land owned by Melton Council.

The council’s planning committee unanimously approved the scheme earlier this year, subject to conditions, despite hearing a multitude of concerns raised by neighbours which included a loss in parking and the proposed building being too big and out of keeping with the area.

It’s anticipated Peterborough-based Axiom Housing Association will have completed the build by around this time next year.
