Staff at Dove Cottage Hospice, at Stathern, have thanked a local business for a generous donation to help them build a much-needed extension.

Barnstone Cement Works pledged a tonne of cement towards the development.

The firm also recently gave the hospice £870 as part of its 150-year anniversary fundraising initiative.

Fundraising administrator at Dove Cottage, Amanda George, said: “The hospice has grown considerably in size over the years, with improved facilities for the guests, more office space and a bigger kitchen.

“The only thing that hasn’t grown is the amount of storage space we have.

“When our builder mentioned he had enough bricks left from a recent project to build us a storage building, we approached Barnstone Cement who kindly donated enough cement for all the brickwork, which was a tremendous help. We now have the storage space we need.”

Chris Stephens, plant manager at Barnstone Cement Works, said: “The new building looks great and we hope they will get lots of use out of it.”
