A van driver was airlifted to hospital after crash with a lorry on the A607 near Melton on Friday.

The collision happened near the junction with Great Lane, near to Buena Vista Kennels, at about 3.30pm.

The 54-year-old driver of the Renault van had to be cut free by firefighters before being flown to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry.

A stretch of the road was closed, between Rearsby and Melton, while emergency services attended the scene.

A police spokeswoman said the van driver’s injuries were described as ‘potentially life threatening’ on Friday. No more information about his condition was available at the time of going to press.

It’s understood the lorry driver suffered minor injuries.
