A teenager is preparing to cycle more than 300 miles to raise money for a charity which helped his late grandfather before his death from cancer.

Joe Dennison, of Barkestone-le-Vale, will pedal from Newcastle to London in 24 hours on August 22 and hopes to generate £1,000 in sponsorship for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The youngster, who left MV16 in Melton in June, said: “There are 400 people taking part in the event and I’ve done quite a lot of training, aiming between 100 and 150-mile rides at least twice a week now.

“The charity is really important to my family and I as Macmillan nurses were incredible in their support for my grandfather who passed away in 2009, which made his loss that little more bearable.”
