Melton’s historic Swan Porch has missed out on being recognised with a green plaque this year - but will be put forward again for recognition next year.

Leicestershire County Council’s Green Plaque scheme recognises individuals or properties which have played an important role in Leicestershire life.

Swan Porch, in Melton’s Market Place, has played a major part in the town’s heritage and had a pivotal part in an incident in 1837 which sparked the popular saying ‘Painting the Town Red’.

But following a public vote it failed to get enough votes to make the list of six winners which will have plaques installed this year.
