A charity summer barbecue which featured entertainment from the Melstrum Ukulele Orchestra has raised £1,235 for Dove Cottage Day Hospice in Stathern.

The event in the grounds of the hospice on Saturday included a two course supper and a free bar for guests.

Amanda George, fundraising administrator for Dove Cottage said: “We really appreciate all the donations of food and drink from local businesses. Without them we wouldn’t be able to achieve the profits that we have.

“The event had a great atmosphere and the volunteers that helped with all the cooking and serving did an amazing job.

“We always welcome new volunteers to help at our events, the next being our auction on Saturday, October 1.”

Businesses who donated food and drink included butchers David Cox, of Stathern, A E Pears and Son, of Long Clawson, Gary Jowett, of Cropwell Bishop, Clive Lancaster and Sons, of Bingham and Belvoir Fruit Farm.
