A procession of about 300 motorcyclists rode into Grantham yesterday for the annual Christmas Bikers’ Toy Run, now in its 26th year.
The bikers met in Bottesford and rode through Grantham and up to The Meres leisure centre where they delivered the toys they and others have donated. They were met by the Mayor of Grantham, Coun Jacky Smith, and Grantham air cadets who handed out refreshments.
John Bartlett, who has organised the event since it began, said the bikers delivered a couple of thousand toys which will be distributed to children in the Grantham and Melton areas by the Seventh Adventist Church.
Mr Bartlett said: “Thank you to everyone who donated toys. It has been stupendous. We had one gentleman from Bingham who had been saving up all year and brought a van-load of toys. Another man brought six Ikea bags full of donations. We also want to give a massive thank you to the police who were absolutely fantastic and to the Mayor’s office and the cadets.”
