A Rotary club has thanked the generous people of Melton who ‘contributed magnificently’ to its annual Christmas charity collection.

The Rotary Club of Melton Mowbray Belvoir’s Santa’s sleigh collection raised £6,583.

Melton Belvoir Rotary Club vice president Robert Asquith said: “In addition to all those people who gave Santa such a tremendous reception throughout the collection period on his travels through Melton and via Facebook and Twitter, the Melton Belvoir Rotary Club would like to thank most sincerely, the organisers of the managers and Staff of the Tesco, Co-op, Lidl, Morrison’s and Sainsbury’s superstores.

“As is the tradition Santa was accompanied by many of his elves not only from the Melton Belvoir Rotary Club and Inner Wheel but also from Round Table, Aurora Rotary Club and the Army Cadets.

The money raised will be used to support a range of community groups and charitable activities.
