Dynamic Year 8 science pupils at Ratcliffe College successfully took part in and won the prestigious Salters’ Festival of Chemistry hosted by Leicester University.

On June 8, students Oliver Hunt, Nigel Denham, Annie Rose Reddin and Marley Totton from the college triumphed over sixteen other independent schools and academies from all over the East Midlands that participated.

The team were challenged to come up with a method of measuring the density of different salt solutions.

The group drew upon their broad science knowledge and worked effectively as a team, conducting lots of different tests using their own unique methods.

Dr Standen, who accompanied the students, was effusive in his praise. He said: “This is a wonderful achievement by the Year 8 students who really worked hard to apply their Science knowledge gained through our own creative Key Stage 3 curriculum to come up trumps. They should definitely be highly congratulated for their efforts.”
