A painting by a former Melton woman which depicts a collection of poppies has been presented to the town branch of the Royal British Legion.

The stunning artwork was donated to the organisation by talented artist, Jean Ecob, who moved to Portugal 27 years ago.

Jean’s close friend Wendy Cleaver, who has been collecting for the Poppy Appeal for almost 20 years, presented it to Malcolm Bryson, who organises the Melton appeal, on Armistice Day.

Mrs Cleaver, of Burton Lazars, said: “Jean knew I had been a poppy seller for many years in Burton Lazars and she wanted to support the Poppy Appeal by donating her painting to the legion branch in Melton.

“It’s hanging up in a lounge at the club now and it’s a really lovely painting.”
