Last chance for Melton people to have say on future of council's libraries, museums and learning services

It’s the last chance for Melton borough residents, businesses and groups to have their say on how Leicestershire County Council will deliver services in the future while providing less and supporting more.

A County Hall spokesman said: “Leicestershire County Council has saved more than £100 million over the last five years and is having to save a further £78m over the next four. It’s becoming clear we have to make savings across all areas of the council’s work.

“For the community and wellbeing service this will mean that by 2018 funding will reduce by over 30 per cent to £3.9m. This means we will have to deliver or enable access to libraries, heritage and learning services differently in the future.”

The council’s budget-saving proposals include reducing the number of libraries which are fully funded by the authority, reducing the number of county council funded museums and heritage venues and charging for some of its services.
