Nominations being taken for Melton representatives at Leicestershire County Council

Nominations are being sought for councillors to represent the four wards across Melton borough at Leicestershire County Council for the next four years.

Papers nominating candidates must be delivered to the deputy returning officer at Melton Council’s Parkside offices no later than 4pm on April 4.

If any election is contested in the wards - in Melton East, Melton West, Belvoir and Melton Wolds - there will be a ballot on May 4.

Nomination papers can be picked up from the borough council offices.

The Local Government Boundary Commission has drawn up new divisions across Leicestershire with Melton town now divided into east and west areas, rather than north and south.

A new Melton Wolds division has been created to cover the parishes of Ab Kettleby, Asfordby, Broughton and Old Dalby, Burton and Dalby, Freeby, Frisby, Gaddesby, Grimston, Hoby with Rotherby, Kirby Bellars, Knossington and Cold Overton, Somerby, Twyford and Thorpe and Wymondham.

The Belvoir ward comprises Belvoir, Bottesford, Buckminster, Clawson, Hose and Harby, Croxton Kerrial, Eaton, Garthorpe, Redmile, Scalford, Sproxton, Stathern and Waltham-on-the-Wolds and Thorpe Arnold.

Current standing county councillors for the borough are Joe Orson (Asfordby), Byron Rhodes (Belvoir), Pam Posnett (Melton North) and Alan Pearson (Melton South).
