Plans to transform Buckminster’s old village blacksmiths into a shop and police office have been submitted to Melton Council.
The Buckminster Estate wants to breathe new life into its Main Street building which hasn’t been in use for many years.
A planning, design and access statement supporting its proposal states: “ These two separate uses will provide services for local people, predominantly within the village, itself, as well as residents of nearby villages.
“The police office will be used, as and when required, for a local police officer to provide a rural presence and an opportunity to provide support and to communicate with local residents.
“Overall it’s anticipated the proposed development will allow this historic building to be protected and retained through its sustainable re-use. Indeed, while the structure remains empty and redundant, it risks falling into a state of disrepair and becoming structurally unsound. Through its sensitive conversion however, the building will be carefully restored and therefore maintained for the future.”
The application will be decided in due course.
