A tree crashed down on a bungalow at Long Clawson this morning (Thursday) as Storm Doris ripped through the Melton borough.

A reader captured this image of the aftermath of the incident as he went to check on the occupants.

He said: “The tree has hit the bungalow and damaged roof tiles. It also brought the phone lines down. There was a lady in the property at the time. She was a bit taken aback by it but she seemed fine when I went to see her.”

Winds of more than 60mph have been reported across Melton with trees falling on the A46 close to Six Hills and on the Oakham road near Tilton.

Reports have also come in of a tree coming down on Broughton Hill near the Long Clawson turn and blocking half of the carriageway.
