Firefighters rescued a motorist after their vehicle got stuck in heavy flood waters at Wymondham last night (Monday).

A crew from Melton and a technical rescue team from Southern Station attended the incident, which happened in Wymondham Drift at 7.16pm.

A spokesperson from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “A car was stuck in water to the top of the wheel with the person inside the vehicle.

“The car was about 20 to 30 metres from dry land. The Melton had to await the arrival of the technical rescue team to assist in the rescue of the car owner.”

Other incidents were reported of drivers being stuck in their cars in the village as flood waters rose.

A spokesperson for the East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme said: “Volunteer Dr Tim Gray was deployed at the request of ambulance control, alongside fire and rescue teams, to Wymondham to assist a number of people who had become stranded in deep water in their cars.

“There were no serious injuries thank goodness.”
