A plea by Melton Mowbray Round Table has been made for more teams to enter their fourth annual canoe race around Egerton Park.

All proceeds from the July 9 event will go towards local charities including the Parents Association for Seriously Ill Children (PASIC).

The canoe race was resurrected in 2013 and has been growing year on year. The event, which comprises teams of four, was won last year by a combined Loughborough and Melton Mowbray Round Table team.

Round Table chairman Nathan Jones said: “It’s great to organise events in the community and give something back.

“With the growing popularity of the canoe race in years gone by we really want to build on the event year on year and raise money for local charities, such as the 4th Melton Mowbray Scout Group who provide the canoes for the event.”

Entry into the canoe race, which is aimed at local social clubs and sports teams, is £10 per team of four.

Registration is from 11am on the day with races starting at 11.30am. There will be a family picnic afterwards.
