A memorial for the remembrance of all unborn babies has been established at a Melton church.

A memorial tablet inscribed ‘In Memory of The Unborn’ has been blessed and mounted on the wall of the graveyard at the church of St John the Baptist in Thorpe End.

The memorial, designed by Melton Parish Priest Father Kevin Clark, is for the remembrance of all unborn babies, however they died, whether stillborn or aborted.

It has been financed by the local branch of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children.

Treasurer Frances Levett said: “Some of our members who have had an abortion told us they felt a need to ‘have permission’, in a sense, to grieve. Some are still suffering many years afterwards.

“We hope this memorial will give them a focal point to help them work through their grief and find peace and forgiveness.”

The graveyard is open 24 hours a day and can be accessed either from the car park at the back of the church or through the gate to the left of the front door.
