A sixteen-year-old Scout from Melton has travelled to Japan for the launch of the 23rd World Scout Jamboree.

Kallum Mitchell (16), has joined 30,000 other scouts from around the globe to celebrate the opening ceremony of one of the biggest Scout multiculturalism gatherings in the world.

The World Scout Jamboree which happens every four years and is at Kirara-hama, near Yamaguchi City, in southern Japan, is an opportunity to interact and participate with others from different cultures and to build solidarity and understanding across cultural and geographical boundaries.

Kallum said: “There’s been so much to do and look forward to. I’ve only been here for a few days so far, but wherever you walk no one ignores you, everyone says hello.”

It’s anticipated that Scouts from over 200 different countries will attend the 12 day event concluding on Saturday.
