People of Melton have been rallying around to donate vital items to aid the ongoing flood relief effort in North West England - but more donations are still urgently needed.

Melton Mowbray Round Table is among the organisations already helping with the clean-up efforts and now it’s calling for more help from kind-hearted Melton people by asking them to donate much needed cleaning products and materials.

Using a combination of money raised for charitable causes and the help of local businesses, namely Melton-based Greenline Service & Supplies Limited and East Goscote-based Midland Marketing Limited, materials have been sent to the helpers on the ground to aid the clean up in some of the devastated areas.

Among the items sent to flood affected communities by Melton Round Table so far include bleach, disinfectants, cloths, paper roll, rags, hand sanitiser, mops and gloves.

A fully loaded van made the journey up north from Melton last Wednesday, with further deliveries planned.

Melton Round Table chairman Chris McKain said: “We joined tables countrywide to help deliver aid. The clean-up is going to take weeks and more floods are highly likely.

“The clean-up organisers need tea lights, towels, rags, hand sanitiser, hard brushes, shovels, mops, gloves, masks, buckets, baby wipes, toiletries, cleaning products, pet food, clothes and books for primary school age children.

“If you can help please contact us via our Facebook page - Melton Mowbray Round Table 479. Anyone wishing to donate goods can drop them off at More Coffee Co, Market Place, Melton.”
