A Melton resident opened up her house and garden on Sunday (May 22) for a fundraising event in aid of two charities.

The ‘Big Brew Up/Bake for Heroes’ event was held at Carol Varnham’s house on Baldocks Lane which was adorned with Union Jack Flags and bunting for the occasion.

Outdoor activities included a tombola and raffle, name the teddy and guess the weight of the cake.

Carol said: “A big thank you to everyone who supported us and to Morrisons for the very kind donation of a £10 gift voucher as a raffle prize.

“We managed to raise £166 which will be split between Help for Heroes and the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).”
