Members of Melton Mencap will soon get the use of a brand new kitchen to replace their existing 25-year-old one after funding was awarded from an annual charity pot.
Organisers applied to the Aviva Community Fund, which allocates thousands of pounds to needy causes throughout the UK.
And they were delighted to hear they will the £3,600 they need to install a new kitchen at their headquarters in Chapel Street.
Melton company 44 Financial made their application for the funding and their director, Steve Clark, was delighted to hear the good news.
He said: “I’ve spoken to the people at Mencap Mencap and they are absolutely over the moon.
“It was particularly nice to hear that the judges had scored our entry highly against some very stiff competition.
“They doing some work on the toilets in the building over the summer and we are hoping they might be able to do the kitchen at the same time.”
Mr Clark’s eight-year-old son Freddie goes to the Fun and Friendship Club at the centre on Saturdays and the summer playscheme which is due to start soon.
He added: “This new kitchen will great for everyone who uses the building, the children and the adults.”
