A cricket fanatic’s coffin was decorated in a scene from the legendary Lord’s ground for his funeral at St Mary’s Church, Melton, on Friday afternoon.

The unusual design was Phil Tomblin’s last wish and mourners paid their last respects as his funeral cortege paused at the town’s The Boat pub, where he was landlord for 22 years from 1980.

Mr Tomblin, who lived in Laycock Avenue, was an enthusiastic cricket player and spectator, turning out for local clubs Egerton Park, Saxby and Stapleford.

His funeral was followed by cremation at Loughborough.
