Tom Greenow and the Market Tavern have been announced as finalists in The Mart’s the Heart Awards in their respective categories of auctioneer of the year and auction cafe of the year.

The Mart’s the Heart Awards highlight the vital role auctions and auctioneers play within the livestock industry and aim to identify and acknowledge driven, progressive auctioneers, as well as rewarding cafes which are often the hub of farming life.

Tom joined Melton Mowbray Market as a sheep auctioneer in 2014, following a spell at another market in the Midlands. The first in his family not to take over the family farm in Herefordshire, he achieved his childhood ambition of becoming a livestock auctioneer. Tom is responsible for selling all classes of sheep on a weekly basis in Melton.

Tom, who is also a Melton borough councillor for the Melton Warwick ward, has a degree in rural land Management at the Royal Agricultural College, has since qualified as a member of the National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers and is an associate member of the Livestock Auctioneers’ Association.

The deadline for voting in The Mart’s the Heart Awards is Wednesday, September 28. The awards will be presented at next month’s British Farming Awards.
