VIDEO: Parents of teenager killed in hit-and-run plead with driver to come forward

Former Wreake Valley Academy student Samuel Garner (17) died just days before his 18th birthday after he was involved in a collision with a dark BMW 5 Series on Welford Road, Leicester, near HMP Leicester, just after 11pm on Sunday (May 1).

He was walking home with friends after a night out celebrating one of their birthdays.

Making a direct appeal to the driver to surrender to police Samuel’s parents, Scott and Tracie Garner, said: “Samuel was much loved, with a great sense of humour and lots of friends. He’d spent Sunday afternoon at his grandparents’ house watching the Leicester City match and headed out to the city with his friends.

“Right now we’re struggling to come terms with the fact that he will never walk through our front door again, we’ll never get to wish him a happy birthday or share special moments with him.”

Pleading for the driver to come forward, Scott added: “To the person that was driving the car please try and find some compassion and do the right thing. If you have any sort of heart whatsoever you, more than anyone, will regret it forever if you don’t come forward.

“If anyone saw what happened please, please come forward and let the authorities know. Even if it’s insignificant and you think it’s not important tell them anyway, it’s the right thing to do. If you don’t and these people are not caught and you knew something, you will always regret it.”
