Traditional Battle of Britain parade to march through Melton

The traditional Battle of Britain parade will travel through Melton on Sunday, September 18, followed by a wreath-laying in the Memorial Gardens.

The Tally Ho! Marching Band will lead the parade which will include representatives from community organisations and a contingent of RAF Police personnel from the Defence Animal Centre.

The parade will set off from Park Road at 11am marching along Nottingham Street into High Street then into the Memorial Gardens where wreaths will be laid from all the organisations taking part, at around 11.15am.

A short service with Last Post and Reveille will follow before the march back to Nottingham Street where the parade will be dismissed.

There will also be a service of dedication at Sage Cross Chapel at 6pm. where standards will be paraded. The Mayor and Senior Town Warden will read the lessons and Sage Cross ministers will lead both services.

Meanwhile, the Melton Mowbray RAF Association Branch will hold a collection at Morrisons during the week of September 12-17, and there will be street collections on Tuesday, September 13 and Saturday, September 17, plus a stall on the Saturday market, 10am-2pm. Shoppers will be able to buy RAFA Wings merchandise including pin badges, wrist bands, plastic ducks and small cuddly bears, and find details of membership and branch activities. All totals will be announced during November.
