Photographic gems from town’s past
Melton Choir at St Mary's Chuch in the 1920s
AN Asfordby man has sent in these pictures of Melton’s past.
Bill Rudkin (82) of Regency Road had the photos handed down to him by his late mother Netta Rudkin.
The first picture is of St Mary’s Church choir, believed to have been taken in 1920.
The late Sir Malcolm Sargent, who was a renowned conductor, organist and composer, is pictured sixth from the left on the second row.
The second photo is off staff at the former Melton Modern Boys School. It is understood to have been taken during the Second World War, the women teachers replaced those who had gone to war.

On the back row from left is, Mr Cullen, Mr Hubbard, Mr Till, Mr Mayo, Mr Berry, Mr Walkdren, Mr Butler and Mr Timms.
Not all of the woman are known on the front row but include, Mrs Darby, Mrs Mountford, Mrs Goldspink, Mrs Revel and Mrs Diamond.
