A pioneering Melton skills centre aiming to help people get into work and to live independently held a successful public open day on Tuesday.
Melton Council’s Me and My Learning Centre, which is based at Phoenix House in Nottingham Road, provides jobseekers with work-ready skills as well as helping vulnerable residents become digitally, financially and socially independent.
People who attended the open day were able to talk to representatives from 12 different agencies offering a whole range of support services and training.
Melton Council people manager Ronan Browne said: “The day went really well and it was a really good start but there are still countless others to support.
“We were delighted to get 150 people through the door and 12 different agencies supporting the event. People were really positive and signed up to lots of courses.
“We know once people get into work they become settled, it’s just getting them there in the first place.”
The day was also an invaluable opportunity for the different service providers to get to know each other and the services they have to offer, better enabling them to help and advise people.
