Melton's mayor officially opens state-of-the-art Skatepark

At a skate ‘jam’ afternoon organised by Melton Borough Council on Saturday, councillor David Wright took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony to symbolise its social importance to young people.

Other attractions on the day included music and food, and for those brave enough, adrenaline fuelled competitions.

The mayor said: “Melton Skatepark has been provided by the council because we as members knew just how important it is to the young people of the town, as well as from much further afield. It’s a privilege to be the mayor of a town with such a first class facility.

As one of the councillors who unanimously supported its construction, I am sure this particular park will bring fun and excitement to all those who use it today and for many years to come.”

The facility in Play Close Park was designed and constructed by leading UK skatepark builder Maverick. Members of the Melton Skatepark Group helped keep the project rolling forward with their enthusiasm and various fundraising activities.
