An afternoon of furious paddling propelled the entrants along the River Eye from Egerton Park bridge, to the swimming baths and under Leicester Road towards the finish.

The victors were a team made up of Loughborough and Melton Round Table members.

Richard Westmoreland, chairman of Melton Mowbray Round Table, said: “A very big thank you to all who attended and helped make the event the roaring success that it was.

“We aimed the event as one for all ages and abilities and fun was had by all. I’m already looking forward to next year where we hope to get even more entrants.”

Part of the aim of Round Table is to support the local community. This year, Melton Round Table donated one of the canoes used for the racing to the Melton Mowbray 4th Scout Group.
