Melton needs more visible policing says county's new police and crime commissioner

Lord Bach told the Melton Times: “We need more visible policing in Melton and surrounding villages as soon as possible. It can’t happen tomorrow and something may have to be sacrificed elsewhere in the system but it has to happen. I don’t want the relationship between the police and public to fall away.

“Rural communities, in particular, like to see an officer on the beat. It gives them a sense of security.”

“Social media is a very good way of sharing information with the public, particularly younger people, but it can’t just be used as a substitute for visible policing.”

Lord Bach’s force-wide priorities include tackling domestic violence and hate crime, both of which he described as ‘hidden crimes’ for not being reported. He said: “I think there’s still scope for making it easier for victims to come forward.”

Lord Bach said he was also keen to hear from victims of anti-social behaviour. He said: “There’s been a decrease in reports in Melton, which is great, but I’m always on the watch for outbreaks in the county. We need to make it clear it’s not acceptable and make sure young people have enough facilities.”
