Melton families as well as experienced riders are encouraged to take to saddle for Treble One Trust charity cycle ride

Melton families are being encouraged to take to the saddle and ride 11.1 miles of loops around Melton Country Park as part of the second Treble One Trust charity cycle ride.

Last year a team of 14 experienced cyclists rode 111 miles, starting from the country park and then pedalling via Oakham, Rutland Water, Uppingham, Market Harborough, Husbands Bosworth, Lutterworth, Desford and Shepshed.

The riders, who all successfully completed the ride, raised around £4,000 for the Treble One Trust. They were mainly friends of inspirational Melton man and former Leicestershire Police sergeant Stewart Sparling.

Stewart (44), who died last year after a brave battle with motor neurone disease, formed the Treble One Trust as there is little or no funding for specialist equipment to help sufferers in the latter stages of the disease.

While Stewart appreciated the help he received from professional organisations, full funding for equipment was not always awarded. Stewart experienced the positive affect this specialist equipment had on his quality of life and in turn, his mission in life became helping others with motor neurone disease. Over the years he raised more than £50,000 to help fellow sufferers of motor neurone disease.

Organisers of the Treble One Trust charity bike ride are hoping even more experienced cyclists will sign up for the second ride, setting off from the country park on Sunday, July 3. Slower riders will be setting off at 8.30am, with the faster riders starting at 9am.

There’s no initial cost for the ride. Monies are to be raised by voluntary donation or sponsorship.

And this year Melton families and less experienced cyclists are being encouraged to take part in a shorter 11.1 mile ride by completing loops around the country park, helping to raise even more for the cause.
