MELTON Lions Club have held a charity stall on Melton street market to promote their community and international work.

Volunteers sold bric-a-brac raising about £150 which will go towards their next local fundraiser, the Lions Christmas Grotto.

The event also saw the club mark World Sight Day and it is now collecting old spectacles for SightFirst, a global initiative to help fight preventable blindness throughout the world.

Lions International has set up and helped run eye camps in many parts of Africa, Asia and elsewhere and Lions in Melton not only collect old specs but also make a donation to the campaign each year.

Old unwanted spectacles can be dropped off at the Melton Times office until November 5. They will then be sent off to be used in many parts of the world.
