Landslip causes disruption for rail commuters between Melton and Oakham

A landslip has caused disruption for Melton and Oakham rail commuters today (Monday. June 13).

East Midlands Trains had announced that trains wouldn’t be running today between Melton and Oakham due to a landslip at Corby Tunnel, which is between Oakham and Corby.

A spokesman said: “The landslip is disrupting our trains on the Melton/Corby to London St Pancras route. At present Network Rail are on site and will continue assessing the damage.

“The line is currently closed between Melton/Oakham and Corby. All of our trains on the route cannot run between Oakham and Corby in both directions.

“The 4.36pm Derby to London St Pancras International will not stop at Melton or Oakham.

“The 9.26am Corby to Derby will now run as normal and the 6pm London St Pancras International to Melton will now run as normal.

“At present we are not expecting the line to re-open today and once we know the extent of the damage we will have an idea for how long this disruption will be on for.

“If you are travelling between Melton/Oakham and Corby we have the following arrangements in place. Customers are able to travel on other operators services between Melton/Oakham and Leicester/Peterborough to catch connecting trains to London.

“Your Advance purchase ticket may be used on other trains, than booked if affected by this disruption. These arrangements will remain in place until the line re-opens.”
