Dove Cottage's fete draws big crowds and raises £5,500

The celebratory event marked the Stathern hospice’s 20th anniversary and the day started with a family dog show organised by Judith Daws.

There were numerous attractions, stalls and arena events held during the day.

Amanda George, fundraising administrator for Dove Cottage said: “We had a really lovely afternoon raising £5,500 from the fete, head shave and prize draw.

“Entertainment included have a go archery by the Belvoir Archers, a performance from Stathern Primary School Choir, Shetland ponies, a display from the Defence Animal Centre’s working dogs and a performance from New St George Morris Dancers. Melton Fire Service also attendedwith their fire appliance.”

She added: “The family dog show attracted 70 entries which raised £266. Thanks must also go to Notcutts - Wheatcroft Garden Centre who donated plants for us to sell, the Melton Belvoir Rotary Club for marshalling, and to all the volunteers.”

Four brave people also made a bald statement and volunteered to have their heads shaved on the day to raise extra funds for the hospice.

Hazel Bonshor, Denise Kemp, Sally-Ann Watson and David Garland raised a whopping £900 in sponsorship together with £75 in donations.”
