Developer makes £22,000 contribution to Harby Village Hall project

Melton Borough Council says it has secured £22,625 from the developer towards the overall cost of £625,000 for the project.

Once the bid for the new hall was launched, Melton Borough Council set to work on finding funding for the project.

Cllr Leigh Higgins, Deputy Leader of the Council who proposed the contribution, said: “Development pressures are huge and the Government expects us to grant permission for several thousand homes over the next 20 years. However developments also offer an opportunity to help fund local projects like the Harby Village Hall.

“We were pleased to work with the Village Hall Committee to understand their project, and satisfied that we were able to persuade the developer to make this contribution.”

Jim Worley, from the Council’s planning department, said: “This contribution adds to another we have secured in Harby and together they are creating a fund that will help make Harby’s new Village Hall a reality.

“We worked closely with the Village Hall to calculate the fair share of the costs that the developer should make and are pleased the developers have agreed. This will now be part of a binding contract to ensure it is paid when the building goes ahead.”

Melton Borough Council is currently producing a Local Plan to guide development for the next 20 years.

The plan will set out the locations for housing and other developments the Borough needs and also the infrastructure that is needed alongside. The next stage of the plan will be published shortly and will offer the opportunity for communities within the Borough to identify what infrastructure projects development proposals it should support and to secure benefits 
from any new develop-
ment.
