Charity fishing match at Eye Kettleby Lakes to raise funds for Children's Air Ambulance in memory of 17-month-old daughter Lucie-Mai

Keen anglers Charlotte and Mark Baker, who lost their daughter Lucie-Mai in 2010, have organised the event in her memory on August 6 - which would have been her eighth birthday.

Over the past five years they’ve raised over £10,000 for charities connected with the loss of a child.

They’ve held the fishing matches at Eye Kettleby Lakes for the last five years and this year they’re aiming to raise enough money for the Children’s Air Ambulance to pay for 11 hours of flying time.

Charlotte said: “After Lucie-Mai passed away we decided we wanted to do something for charity to help people like ourselves.

“This year we chose the Children’s Air Ambulance as it receives no Government funding and you never know when you might need them.

“Our aim is to raise a minimum of £2,500 which will pay for about 11 hours of fuel. This could help hundreds of children get to hospital within minutes and receive the lifesaving treatment they need.”

Angling enthusiasts from the Melton area can still book places for the big match but need to be quick to book pegs.

Even if you’re not a big fishing fan you can give your support on the day, with a raffle and barbecue also taking place on the day.

Charlotte is also appealing to businesses in the Melton area which can support the charity event by donating raffle prizes.

She said: “We make a lot of our money from the raffle and it plays a big part in helping us to raise funds.

“Have you any unwanted Christmas or birthday presents hanging around that you could donate to a good cause? Vouchers that you wont be able to use? Could your business offer a gift or voucher that someone would really appreciate winning?

“We really do rely on your help to make the most of the day and the raffle has always been a great way for us to raise extra funds.”
