Cash machine ripped from wall of post office by thieves using fork lift is found near Melton

A cash machine which thieves ripped from the wall of a county post office using a fork lift truck has been found in some farmland near Melton.

The incident took place at about 2.30am this morning (Thursday, April 14) at Shepshed Post Office.

The fork lift used in the ATM raid was stolen from the Belton area of Leicestershire last night.

It’s believed the suspects left the scene in a silver pick-up truck and a dark coloured saloon and headed towards Hathern.

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “The ATM has subsequently been in some farmland in Hickling, near Melton, close to the border with Nottinghamshire. A quantity of cash was stolen from the ATM.

“The silver pick-up truck was also found abandoned in Scalford, near Melton, this morning.

“We would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has seen any suspicious activity in the areas of Belton, Hickling and Scalford between 2.30am last night and this morning.

“If you can help with our investigation then please contact Dc 1308 Nick Robbins on 101, quoting crime number 84778.”
