Burglary victim’s emotional plea for return of sentimental items

AN ASFORDBY HILL woman has made an emotional plea to have her late mother and father’s items returned after they were taken by burglars. Sentimental items, such as her mother’s wedding ring and her father’s watch, were stolen during the burglary.

Electrical items, including two laptops and a camera, were also taken but the ring and two watches are among the woman’s most prized possessions and she is desperate to get them back.

The victim, Andrea Green (39), said: “My mother and father both passed away last year and so to have their belongings taken from me is devastating. “I can buy a new laptop and I can buy a new camera, but the items I wish to have returned most are those that are irreplaceable and hold more value to me than money can buy.

“If you know where my mother’s ring or father’s watch is then please call police or hand them in at a police station.”

Her house was burgled on Thursday January 5.

Pc Natasha Hassell, the investigating officer, said: “The victim’s family had worked and lived in Asfordby Hill for a very long time and I hope residents in the area will pull together to help us locate the stolen items. “We’ve carried out house-to-house enquiries and are in the process of contacting pawn brokers and jewellery dealers but I hope this appeal will encourage anyone who knows anything about the burglary, those responsible or the whereabouts of the stolen items, to come forward.”

The stolen ring has been described as a gold wedding band which is thinning in areas after 47 years’ wear. One of the stolen watches had a dark leather strap with a gold clasp and a white face. On the back of the watch the words ‘Derek Green, 40 years of service at Holwell Works’ are engraved. The second watch, owned by Andrea’s late grandfather, is a Swiss-made Rone watch with a gold metal strap, cream face and gold trim.

L Anyone with any information should call Pc 4835 Natasha Hassell on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
